NWFA U.S. & Canadian Solid Wood Flooring Summit

Wood flooring manufacturers and other industry professionals came to Nashville in early November of 2012 for the U.S. & Canadian Solid Wood Flooring Summit. NWFA kicked off the meeting with a hospitality suite on Tuesday, November 6th, followed by a full agenda of industry topics on Wednesday. The meeting ended after a special networking lunch.

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS INCLUDED:

 

  • Dana Lee Cole, the new executive director of the Hardwood Federation, provided an immediate analysis of what the presidential election results could mean for our businesses.
  • Santo Torcivia with Market Insights, provided the latest forecast from his 2013 U.S. FLOOReport, which was just completed.
  • Jack  Shannon, Jr., J.T. Shannon Lumber Company and member of the Blue Ribbon Panel for creating a wood products industry Checkoff program, provided an update on what this "Got Milk" type of marketing support through the USDA could mean for wood flooring manufacturers.
  • Mike Italiano, Capital Marketing Group, provided an update on the Lacey Due Care Standard, a program he has championed to provide a clear way of meeting the Act's requirements. In addition, shared a proposed solution for getting LEED point credits outside of the FSC requirement through the SMaRT initiative, which now recognizes the NWFA Responsible Procurement Program as a means of meeting SMaRT requirements.


Additionally, NWFA provided a short update and had both leaders and staff available to answer questions regarding recent changes in manufacturer programs including efforts with the U.S. Department of Weights & Measures to clarify packaging standards, NWFA's new Accepted Product Seal Program, Product Support Center, milling standards, and work with the American Hardwood Promotion.
